Miss Stilettos: Chapter 1 - The Big Break

Krrrrrnnnnggggg…. Krrrrrnnnnggggg...

6 AM.

I moved my lazy and aching body out of the bed.

I knew this would be happening. Darn. I will never play tennis on a
Sunday again.

Or shall I say, I should try to play regularly?

Each and every muscle of my body is hurting so bad.

Anyways, I should not let this pain bother me as it is my big day: I
will have my final interview for Happenings Inc., one of the biggest
Events Organizing Company in the country. Yay! I am so excited.

I poured some cornflakes on my bowl and got the coffee off the brewer,
contemplating on the possible questions they would throw at me later
on: What are your strengths and weaknesses? How could you contribute
to the company? What was the hardest decision you had ever made?

Oh well.

If these are the questions, no doubt, I could ace them all.

Strengths? I can do stuffs on my own or as part of a team. I can say
that I am not just smart but a whole lot more.

Weaknesses? None that I can think of right this very moment.

Contribute to the company? – I had attended lots of events and have
enormous experiences on the preparation. Having hands on experiences,
I can say, will put me steps ahead of the game.

Hardest decision ever made – Moving out and living alone. I got my own
place and do things on my own.

See…I got everything covered.

I wish they would ask me these questions.

Now, time to get dressed and hope everything will be like what I
perceived them to be.

Dressed in a killer suit and skirt pair and my stilettos, I am off to
conquer the world.

9 AM – Happenings Inc. Office

Did you know that they are very strict here? The Receptionist was
telling me that her boss is from hell. Gosh, Scary.

I heard the other applicant talking to her seatmate, who seems to be
an applicant too.

Darn. I don’t want to have a boss like the one in The Devil Wears
Prada. Help me Lord.

I put an earphone on and pretended to be listening to something.

I will not let these things get into my nerves as if it will; I will
be running out of this fabulous office in my newly bought stilettos
just for this occasion.

“Ms. Claudia Leticia Cruz. Please proceed to the Break Out Room”.

That’s me. This is the moment!

“Good morning”, I uttered as I entered the room and I saw a man, I
can say in his late 20s still, sitting behind a desk which seems like
it was hit by a tornado.

Clack! Clack! Clack! I can hear my heels as I approached him. Gosh, I thought the floor is carpeted. Anyways...Clack! Clack!
Silence still.

Ehem…Ehem…”Good morning, Sir”.

“Oh, I am sorry Miss…”, he finally replied while still scrambling on
the papers on his desks as if he is missing something.

Robert Enriquez – Events Director – it says on the name on his desk.

“Claudia Leticia Cruz, Sir”.

“Ok, Miss Cruz. How do you prefer to be called?”

“You may call me Dia”.”

“Dia, have a seat please. I will not be making it hard for you…and me
as well. I had seen the initial interview done by the other members
and they had put in great points for you. I only have one final
question for you.”

“Thank you, Sir. Yes please.”, I replied while wishing it won’t be
hard enough for me to comprehend.

“How did you get your name?”

“Am sorry?.”

"I was asking, how did you get your name?”

Claudia (from Claudia Schiffer) Leticia (from Leatitia Casta) Cruz.

Yes, my names are from Supermodels. My mom is so obsessed with their
beauty and flair and dreamed of having a supermodel daughter someday.

I was so sorry for her disappointment. Just kidding. Is that all, Sir?

“Ah, I see...That’s all. You will just need to proceed to Reception
and tell them that I had sent you for HR to have your contract signed
and all these paperworks. Congratulations, you got the job.”

“Really! Thank you so much Sir”.

“Goodluck but I have one favor to ask, please do not call me “Sir”.
You may call me Robert.”

“Thanks Robert. I shall be going to the Reception. See you around!”
I think I was deaf, and I can feel my heart still racing as I
approached the skinny receptionist.

“Hi! Robert sent me and he said that I should be proceeding to HR for
some paperworks”

“Oh well, congratulations! I just hope you’ll be able to put up with
him for the next months”, the skinny girl said.

“Am sorry. What was that again?” – I replied as if I did not hear
everything she just said.

“Nothing, here are your papers, just hand them to the HR Counter so
that they’ll know that you were endorsed by Robert.”

“Ok, got it. Thanks!”

Hmmm...Do I have to be scared? Nope. I am Dia and I am not afraid of anything.

My new boss is good looking though even if he looks like a little uptight.
I’ll see in the coming days.

My First Mini Novel: Miss Stilletos

I’ve loved blogging since I moved to Doha.

I think, I’ve mentioned before that I was inspired by a friend to
write and even take photos. She’s really good.

When I was younger, I would always keep a journal with me.

I would write on a weekly or even daily basis about what’s happening,
about my thoughts which are sometimes crazy and absurd.

Anyways, I've been meaning to write a novel in a full blast.

I mean finish it before posting it somewhere or submitting it to a publishing company and check if they would be interested or not.

It’s worth a try.

Anyways, I had started writing this story about 3 months back.

I was working on evening shift and I had drafted the chapters and was
trying to complete them as soon as I can.

With the holidays and all, I was derailed so now I am back on
track and will try to post a chapter or two once I have them typed in
and proof read.

Enjoy and let me know of your thoughts...

Ciao!

Peri-Peri

I might be slim but I have a healthy appetite.

I love to eat and taste each and every plate of food.

It’s just that my metabolism is so fast.

Since I had moved to Doha, I had tasted lots of dishes, Arabic ones.

Some of them I liked, some of them are not just my kind of food.

I’ve always loved to eat the chicken in Nando’s Restaurant.

Their Peri-Peri chicken is one of the amazing ones – you can also choose the level of spiciness.

It was last Christmas when Hamude and I ate there.

The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, with the yellow lights and all of these facts framed and posted on the walls.

We tried their new dish and it was good.

Hummous with Beef

Before, I’ve never liked the hummous but I liked theirs as it was cooked with beef.

Cold Drinks

They always serve different kinds of drinks and I liked this strawberry one. It does not taste like cough-syrupy or something.

Make sure you try out their delicious dishes!

Qatar Motorshow 2012

Last year, I was not able to visit the exhibition.

The reason – I can no longer remember, so this year, after a lot of
begging, my boyfriend had agreed to go and check the cars there.

I don’t know how to drive but would just like to know if the
exhibition is good or not.

It’s included in my “Bucket List” though.

I am so scared to drive as I can barely cross the street.

It was January 25th when we visited there.

As expected, since it’s the first day, there are lots of people.

They do have outdoor drifting demos too!

Too bad it was already finished when we got out.

The cars are amazing!

There are many brands who participated in the said event.

They’ve showcased lots of activities also in the booths.

For Shell, they have a booth where the attendees can have a photo taken.

For Ford, they have something like a game where the attendees can
drive and have feel on what’s like in the Ford Rally.

There is also a mascot for Michelin (see the guys did not let this
opportunity to have a photo with him pass).

There are lots of cars that you will enjoy checking for sure.

The exhibition was open up until January 28.

I came there ready and brought a camera to get the photos of these
fabulous cars.

Goodbye, January

The end of the first month of the year is almost finished!

I had been working on the morning shift for 3 months now I think and
next month, my world will change.

I will be on evening shift and I am excited though I have to stay up
and wake up late too.

My emotions have been on a roller coaster ride this month: hopefully,
it won’t be like that for the rest of the year.

The temperature here is Doha had dropped to an 8 degrees this month
and yes, I am freezing to death.

The heater had become my best friend again.

There was a day when I had just lied down directly once I got home,
grabbed my sheets, switched on the heater and the TV – but I like the
cold weather more than the scorching summer heat.

I’ve been thinking of things to do once I am on evening shift.

I can do lots of stuffs in the morning!

I am hoping to have a more productive month/s ahead of me!

Ciao!
